Bio / Contact
“Food Stylist to the Stars” is the title that Nancy Goodman Iland earned while working on the last six seasons of the
well known TV series “Murder She Wrote”. She has over 19 years worth of food styling for television and film under her professional belt. In those 19 years, Nancy has practiced the art of makng food that not only looks fantastic on camera, but is also delicious and well-received by the talent. Even before the actors leave their trailers to head to stage, Nancy is carefully preparing and dressing the appropriate food for the scene while staying true to the actors' palates. Whether it be a high end New York restaurant for the show “Kitchen Confidential”, a greasy spoon diner that Angela Lansbury stepped into to find clues on “Murder She Wrote” or concocting a recipe for edible sand for “The Young and the Restless”, no job is too big or void of her creative inginuity. Her hands-on approach, can-do attitude, and natural desire to be a team player makes her a welcome addition to any set
How did Nancy get to be where she is today? She is a native Southern Californian, born in the San
Fernando Valley (Yes, a true "Valley Girl"!). She grew up in Thousand Oaks, where she worked in several restaurants. She returned to the Valley to attend California State University Northridge to get her BA degree in three-dimensional art, with an emphasis in Set Design/Interior Design AND a certificate in computer graphics and film production. (That's a lot!!!) While acruing this bevy of education, she simply wasn't busy enough and she started working in the kitchens of the top catering companies of Los Angeles. Nancy, never to be hidden in a back room to produce without the ability to add her own flair, later moved up to the front, designing the buffets, managing the events and event planning until she started her own catering company, “FoodArt”. After graduation, she worked at a prop house designing theme parties. This brought her the opportunity to work in the art departments of top television shows such as, “Golden Girls”, “Empty Nest”, “Blossom”, “Herman’s Head”, and “Nurses”. When her contract was up, she called a few catering friends and returned to the fine art of catering. One of the friends called her to come work on a TV show doing food styling and this was the beginning of her career as "One of the Top Food Stylists in Hollywood". She has also lent her creative hand at food styling for print ads in Bon Appetit and Los Angeles magazines. She continues to cater for private events, some of which are for the very stars she has had the pleasure to work with while on the set, like Angela Lansbury and Ron Silver. Nancy’s reputation for great events is known nationwide.
As if food styling for shows and catering to the stars wasn't enough, Nancy has edited and published two cookbooks; ”The Murder She Wrote Cookbook: Recipes from the Cast and Crew” and “Dining Out for Life” cookbook, which was produced for the organization, “Aid for AIDS”. She has also produced a set of her own recipe note cards titled “Poetry in the Kitchen". These thoughtful gift ideas feature her artwork and recipes from her parents' bed and breakfast. (AAA rated four diamond!!)
Nancy enjoys traveling, cooking delicious meals for her friends, and is the proud parent of a thirteen year old son.
